Zagreb Dance Center Starts 2025 With Children’s Show Koloplet
ZPC’s January program is chock-full of diverse performances that will satisfy the tastes of contemporary dance lovers, but also attract the youngest audience with interactive content. The youngest viewers will be treated to the magic of the children’s piece Koloplet, intended for children ages four to ten, which will lead them into an inexhaustible world of wishes, while the rest of the audience looks forward to the premiere of Sounds Like Pepper and reprise performances of two hits – the piece Unisono and Talking Head Case. At the end of January, the Zagreb Dance Center will also host the prestigious Awards of the Professional Contemporary Dance Associations of Croatia – the awards that celebrate excellence and achievements in the field of contemporary dance.
Children’s show “Koloplet” first time at Zagreb Dance Center
One of the highlights of the January program is Marija Maksimović and Martina Rukavina’s piece Koloplet, designed for children aged four to ten. In the piece for the youngest audience, which will have its Zagreb premiere on 11 January, at 6:00 p.m., we will get playful with Koloplet. It will take us to the world of wishes, as we encounter various situations along the way. But the question that always arises is Are we on the right track?
Through a cheerful combination of dance, music and interactive gestures, the performance fosters creativity and imagination and provides an unforgettable experience for children and their parents. It is an opportunity for a family outing that will be enjoyed by all ages.
Premiere performance of “Sounds Like Pepper”
The vocal-narrative performance Sounds Like Pepper of author Marina Petković Liker, delves into working with the performers through an exploration of the moment of a universal cry, a cry that each performer feels inside and outside themselves when they observe the world through empathetic eyes. The performance is a chiaroscuro painted, atmospheric, sonically delicate, non-verbally vocal and sparsely populated with words. The premiere performances will be held on 24 and 25 January, at 8:00 p.m., at the Zagreb Dance Center.
Reprise performances
January at the Zagreb Dance Center also brings reprises of two pieces – Nika Janković Disney’s Unisono from the Koreospektar program, produced by the Association of Professional Dance Artists PULS, as well as the Talking Head Case created by duo Lara Frgačić and Endi Schrötter that questions the relationship between the individual and the group and their intertwining, clashing and accepting different characters.
Awards of the Professional Contemporary Dance Associations of Croatia
January ends on a solemn note, with the awards of the professional contemporary dance associations of Croatia – UPUH and PULS, honouring the best works and artists in contemporary dance in Croatia. We invite everyone to support this exceptional event and join us in celebrating the art of Croatian contemporary dance.
Throughout the month, the Zagreb Dance Center continues with traditional morning practice sessions for dance and performance artists – Sven Bahat, Marjana Krajač and Nika Disney offer their training programs for everyone wishing to improve their dance skills. The training programs are free of charge but spots should be reserved in advance, by contacting us at: info@zagrebackiplesnicentar.hr.
See you at the Zagreb Dance Center!
