Pageant is an ongoing work in progress. Pageant talks about the small scale makeshift gay pageant competition happening in Philippines. These pageantry has been a way for the gay community to showcase and express their talent, skills, intelligence, and showcase their body into an almost woman figure but also as for economical purposes. The backlash of these competitions are putting gay man as a spectacle by objectifying themselves as a form of entertainment to the public. Exploring the aesthetic of this Filipino gay pageants presenting to the audience its structural forms, conversations, identity change, and physicality that has been created in this specific aesthetic as it has its own particular form and vocabulary.
Joshua Serafin is a Filipino dancer, performer, maker currently based in Brussels, Belgium . He is a graduate of Philippine High School for the Arts where he majored in Theatre Arts, he also studied in Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts major in Contemporary dance for two years before being admitted to the school P.A.R.T.S in Belgium where he is currently in his 2nd year. He was able to work with different productions, festivals, and with international artists mostly from Europe and Asia such as: Manuel Pelmus, Ming Wong, Bruno Isacovic, Adrian Wong and Shane Parson, Arco Renz, Eisa Jocson’.
