ME, VIOLA AND I

To dance and at the same time to make and reproduce the music for that dance, to dance and play, or to play and dance, are some of the questions that Nastja Štefanić strives to answer in her new piece entitled Me, Viola and I. In touch with a living body, the instrument seems to come alive and remain such thanks to the sounds made on it. Playing with the hybrid from of solo-duet, the author „opens“ herself in front of the viewer, questioning her own self as a dancer and musician.

Nastja Štefanić was born in Slavonski Brod in 1989. Since 2004, she lives in Zagreb, where she works as a professional musician, dancer, choreographer, dance and music teacher. She has an MA in viola from the Music Academy in Zagreb, and belongs to the first generation of students who have graduated from the Dance Department of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, where she obtained a B.A. in contemporary dance in June 2016. Nastja collaborates with numerous Croatian and foreign artists (Zrinka Šimičić Mihanović, Petra Hrašćanec and Saša Božić, Thierry Smits…) and creates her own works. As a musician and performer, she has performed in Croatia and abroad (Belgium, the United Kingdom, Greece, Germany, Estonia, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary), and won numerous awards and grants, including the Dean's Award for her choreography of Cadenza per 6. She works as an assistant teacher at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb.
