BOYS BOYS BOYS
In Boys Boys Boys, three male dancers study their bodies and question the relationship between society and masculinity. They enter the space of intimate and private, and then play with the thoroughly researched forms and physicality of their own male and female characteristics. By embracing gender stereotypes, they deal with them through dance vocabulary, using gender normativity solely as something that offers a wide spectre of performative possibilities.
Approaching the feminine and the masculine as equally present in a male body, trying to determine how they reflect each other and to redefine them, we launched into a very interesting research of a dancing body. This production represents a rare phenomenon on the Croatian dance scene, not only because it tackles physical gender differences and issues, but also because by casting only male dancers, we directly criticize the society in which dance is reserved for women. What kind of a society is it, where some activities are reserved only for one gender, and every exception from the imposed expectations is discriminated?
