November at Zagreb Dance Center – Antisezona’s Choreographic Convention and Three Premieres
This November, dance art aficionados are in for a rich performance program at the Zagreb Dance Center, with highlights including three premieres and numerous reprise performances by renowned international and domestic creators and artists, as well as Antisezona’s 2024 Choreographic Convention – Bodies in Free Fall.
ZPC’s November program kicks off with the show ARA!ARA!, by Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, as part of the 41st Dance Week Festival, one of the largest dance festivals in the region and one of the longest-running festivals in Europe and Croatia.
The acclaimed creative duo of Panzetti and Ticconi brings to the Zagreb Dance Center the premiere of the play ALL’ARME, produced by the Studio Contemporary Dance Company in collaboration with the PAN-ADRIA Network – a choreographic piece for six dancers, in which the authors embark on a journey that begins with the exploration of the rhythmic potential of the human step, exploring the compelling power of synchronized and collective movement.
In mid-November, catch up on reprise performances of the acclaimed piece MONUMENTS, produced by the DE FACTO theatre group, under the creative direction of Zagreb composer Nikola Krgović (better known as N/OBE), with Saša Božić as the author of choreography and dramaturgy. It is an interdisciplinary performance for five young dancers that combines contemporary dance and experimental club music through an artistic exploration of history and cultural heritage.
Dance artist Koraljka Begović will perform her FUNERAL/double bill – doing Funeral for My 20s and Funeral for My 30s in a single performance. As part of Theatre Night, on 16 November, the FUNERAL/double bill performance will be free for all visitors of the Zagreb Dance Center, but tickets need to be reserved on time at the box office or through ZPC’s website.
Authors Petra Chelfi and Petra Valentić bring reprise performances of their hit project Trilogy: PARTE PARTE / PTERO / PART3.
Antisezona’s Choreographic Convention – Bodies in Free Fall, which takes place 19 – 23 November at several locations in Zagreb, brings the advocacy event, Nomad Dance Advocacy: “Transformative Policies for Dance”, to the Zagreb Dance Center on 20 November.
Mobilising the format and heritage of the cabaret genre, Žak Branko Valenta’s project Chez Michou (The Mystery of Blue) interweaves the image of French singer and drag artist Michou with a poetic reflection on disorientation, while the Croatian premiere of this piece is on the program at the end of the month.
Zagreb Dance Center’s program will also include the already well-known piece Never Allone – a choreographic journey of creator Matea Bilosnić, while the month’s sumptuous program ends with the premiere performance of the project There, Where All Souls Go of the Zagreb Dance Company. In the piece, author Miloš Isailović treats that invisible space to which all souls aspire. Where does the soul go when it leaves love? There, Where All Souls Go follows the different stories of several starkly different people, who are both ready and not ready for love. The strong and the weak. Groups of people on the same path towards the same goal, of whom only one succeeds.
Throughout the month, the Zagreb Dance Center continues with traditional morning practices for dance and performance artists – Roberta Milevoj, Ana Jelušić, Mia Štark and Silvija Musić present their training programs for everyone hoping to improve their dance skills. The training sessions are free of charge, but spots need to be reserved, by writing to: info@zagrebackiplesnicentar.hr.
