MORNING PRACTICE and WORKSHOPS FOR DANCE ARTISTS – October

October brings two workshops held by international dance artists and choreographers.

GRAVITY FLOW of Polish choreographer, dancer and pedagogue Magdalena Reiter takes place from 30 September until 4 October, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at ZPC’s Gray Studio.

The workshop will explore the fundamentals of moving that enable multidimensional movement that goes beyond the just vertical. In order to increase the possibilities and variety of movement potential, we will develop practices making use of physical phenomena such as gravity and the centrifugal and centripetal forces. We will work on changes in dynamics and rhythm and move through different spatial planes.

The COMMON WORKS workshop, running 7 to 12 October, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., of the Austrian-American choreographer and author Timothy Nouzak is a space of guided exchange where performers-collaborators gather to improvise, share and experiment, with the aim of finding a new possible approach to the material from which the next edition will be created –based on the ideas and concepts introduced during the past editions of the project.

In the morning trenKI practice with choreographer Sven Bahat, running 14 to 18 October, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., we study an efficient and healthy mode of movement using the basic principles: crawling, standing, walking, running, and jumping. We break down the basic principles and expand them into dynamic and explosive sequences and forms of movement, independently and in pairs. When and where does movement begin? How do we keep our movement efficient? How do we guide our body and movement? We study how to direct, guide and use kinaesthetic energy in more complex and dynamic forms of movement, dynamic falls, jumps, and rapid changes in spatial levels of movement.

In dance artist Koraljka Begović’s Playing Body, we work on an amalgam of the playing and playful body. Through the intertwining of different approaches to working with the body, from more intense physical fitness training, through motor and sensory exercises, all the way to working with flexibility, we prepare the body for alertness, playfulness, speed, agility and explosiveness, which we use in the second portion of the class in improvisational tasks and exercises, questioning the notions of the playful and the playing body, in the context of performance and presence. We will also work in pairs, becoming aware of our own and the weight of others, the subtlety and concreteness of touch and contact, and we will examine different ways of moving together. The main goal of the training is to relate to your own body’s readiness for unpredictability and challenges, as well as to work on being present through grounding and breath. Participants can expect to work on dynamic and meditation exercises as well as different improvisational tasks. Morning practice of Playing Body will be held 21 to 25 October, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., at ZPC’s venue.

Danijel Dubičanac will hold a yoga / Thai massage training from 28 to 31 October, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. In the first half hour of each workshop, we will practice dynamic yoga according to the needs of the group, and in the remaining hour I will guide you through the basic techniques of Thai massage. You will give and receive simple procedures that provide a pleasant recovery. Legs on Monday, shoulders and arms on Tuesday, back on Wednesday and feet, palms and head on Thursday.

The workshop is intended for professional dancers, performers and creators.

ZPC’s program of morning trainings and workshops, intended for professional dance artists, is aimed at developing skills, exchanging ideas, and acquiring new knowledge and experiences. They are intended for contemporary dance artists who possess professional knowledge and have completed their dance education, as well as members of professional associations, the Croatian Dancers Association (UPUH) and the Association of Professional Dance Artists “PULS”.
