KOREOSPEKTAR 2023.

February at the Zagreb Dance Center is dedicated to Koreospektor, a development and co-production program intended for talented young and unestablished dance artists, that will feature three premieres and as many as nine reprise dance performances created as co-productions between ZPC and the Croatian Dancers Association, the Association of Professional Dance Artists ‘PULS’ and production company Sabmarine.

The first of the three premiere projects, Echo, choreographed and performed by dance artist Margareta Sinković, is scheduled for Saturday, 4 February. The project stems from two motivational starting points, “out of a desire to establish a specific performative relationship with music, and from the desire to explore the auditory aspect of a dancer’s body. More specifically, to explore the body that will present a silent dance. The dramaturgical connection between the musical and the bodily-performative layer of the performance is created by defining the almost oxymoronic conceptual question of how music might emphasise the quietness in the production of dance material”, highlights the show’s writer Luka Bosanac.

Later in the month, the premiere of Unisono, by choreographer Nika Disney, performed by Arian Šajina, follows on 18 February. According to the author, Unisono represents an intelligent and sensitive individual in a society dominated by appearance, while the piece aims to explore the dynamics of social and personal expectations, mechanisms of re/presentation and feedback loops.

On the last Saturday of the month, 25 February, the premiere program concludes with the performance of Choosing by Chance, choreographed by Marija Dujmić in collaboration with Nika Špekuljuk and Martina Terzić. Directing their focus on matters of choice, decision and chance, the authors try to empower the audience to participate in shaping the performance here-and-now, and at the same time offer them the possibility of observing and leaving the decision to someone else.

Reprise titles on the program include Sabmarine’s co-production successes Individue(t) and Talking Head Case, choreographed and performed by Lara Frgačić and Endi Schrötter, Boys Boys Boys by Mateja Miković, as well as Puls’s productions, Playground 22 and I Got You by Margareta Firinger and Jovana Zelenović. The last two days of the month are reserved for the NIIT production, Salto Animato, created by Filipa Bavčević, Nastasja Štefanić Kralj and Jovana Zelenović.

All performances start at 8 p.m..
